DISCIPLINE POLICY
The teachers and staff at A Child’s Place do
the best that we can to educate and support our children. We expect
children to behave in accordance with the rules of the school. We
expect that children may disobey the rules at times; however blatant
disrespect for the rules will not be tolerated.
We will do our best to handle student’s
behavior inside the classroom. Teachers will use time out that will not
exceed the amount of minutes that equal the child’s age.
For example a 5 year old will receive time out for no longer than 5
minutes.
we will do our best to handle
students’ behavior inside the classroom we believe in behavior
modification and helping students achieve self-control. Therefore we use
a method called 1-2-3 magic. This method encourages self-control and
behavior modification.
When a teacher needs a child
to change their behavior the follow is carried out:
1- The teacher attempts to
redirect the child
2- If this doesn’t fit the
situation or does not work the teacher will give the child an
instruction to be followed. If the child refuses the teacher will
explain that the child has until the count of 3 to follow the direction.
The teacher stops talking.
3- After a few seconds the
teacher will count 1 and repeat the directions. The will wait and give
the child time to comply.
4- The teacher will count 2
then 3. If the child still doesn’t comply, they will be separated from
the group and instructed to re-join whenever they are ready to comply.
5- If non-complianonsistent or uncontroce
continues or is cllable the child’s parents will be called
for a
meeting. During this meeting
a plan will be agreed upon between the parents and the school.
Several physical
uncontrollable disciplinary issues at any age could be cause to ask a
parent to remove a child from the program if they compromise the safety
of other students.
If the behavior continues a call will be placed to the parents or a note will be sent home.
The teachers in the classroom will do their best
to come up with a solution that the teachers and the parents can work
on at home and at school. If these solutions do not work and the child
continues to misbehave the child will receive 3 strikes which will
accompany an incident report.
Following the second strike a conference will be called between the teacher, parents and the director.
After the 3rd strike the child will be suspended from school.
After 3 suspensions from school the child will be expelled from the program.
**Although we hope that no child will reach this
step in the discipline policy it is important that each child
understand the importance of good behavior and following the rules. All
the children in the class suffer when children constantly exhibit
unruly or disruptive behavior. Every child has the right to learn and
no child’s opportunity should be taken away because of another
child’s behavior.
