INSIDE THE CLASSROOM
DAILY SCHEDULE
Each class in A Child's Place provides all children with structure and routine each day. You can find a copy of the daily schedule outside your child's classroom.
TOILET TRAINING
In all two-year old classes toilet training is a part of the daily routine. The children are taken to the bathroom every hour to 2 hours to establish a routine. This routine should be used at home as well to assist in the training process.
In most cases the class will be escorted together to the bathroom at the designated bathroom time.
OUTSIDE TIME
As a part of our curriculum and daily schedule, children will go outside everyday to get fresh air. Children will not do outside when temperatures are below 32 degrees or above 90 degrees. This helps to maintain a healthy classroom environment and healthy students. If children cannot go outside for health reasons parents must submit a doctor’s note.
All parents must sign a walking permission slip for children to take neighborhood walks. Children will walk to collect objects for science or observe different weather conditions as well as to visit different places in the community.
NAP TIME
All children in nursery & pre-school will take a two hour rest time each day. Children are not forced to go to sleep, but they are encouraged to rest their bodies and minds.
Children should have a blanket, but they cannot use a pillow. Each child must remove their shoes when taking a nap.
PRE-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
It is important that pre-school and nursery children have the opportunity to delve into an array of activities during the day. The pre-school classrooms are broken up into 5-7 different centers. The teachers fill the centers with interactive materials for the children to explore and learn from each day. These centers include, but are not restricted to art area, sensory area, dramatic play, manipulative/fine motor play, blocks, writing/match or science area and library area, and cozy/calm down area.
NUTRITION/LUNCH TIME
Children can receive breakfast, lunch and snack as offered by the school. Each meal is well balanced and menus are available at the front office. Children can also bring hot/cold lunch from home.
HOMEWORK
In each of our classes the children are learning different lessons all day. It is important that parents are aware of the skills being taught in the classroom. Homework time is a great opportunity for parents to get involved in the education of their child. Our younger students will be given fun learning activities for homework and we expect that parents will encourage children to complete simple assignments. These assignments however are not mandatory, but are highly recommended. Our older grade school students must complete homework as a requirement for their report card grade. Parents should look over homework assignments and sign the assignment acknowledging that they saw the completed homework.
